- Quality of Life
Ostomy diversion surgeries (colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy) create physical changes which in turn lead to major psychological consequences. Quality of Life or Ostomy Quality of Life is the term used in assessing the extent of this psychological impact. Quality of Life studies have revolved around qualitative questionnaires and focus groups directed at ostomy patients at different time periods following their surgeries. The studies encompass stoma and non-stoma related issues. The former would cover stoma management, stoma problems, and patient’s perception (is the stoma viewed positively?) whereas the latter would analyze professional and social activities, sexuality, and spirituality.
